7. Can you afford general veterinary care and extensive veterinary care in case of an emergency?
Think very hard about the above question. If there is even a possibility that your answer is no please go no further with this questionnaire and save yourself, Pom Haven Rescue, and the dog future problems! Please initial here stating that you have read and understand this.
We have had too many dogs returned to us with injuries because adopters did not have the money to pay for emergency veterinary bills from broken bones, electrical burns from chewing through cords, ingesting foreign objects or toxic substances, the list goes on and on. Adopters have brought ill or injured dogs back to our doors expecting us to assume responsibility for veterinary bills because of their negligence. We have rescued these dogs once and don't feel we should have to rescue them again. If you can't afford the vet you can't afford the pet!
8. How many hours of the day will the dog be home alone?
If you answered more than 8 hours per day to the above question, we would prefer you not adopt from us.
9. Do you have a fenced yard, or will the dog be on a leash when outdoors?
*Please Note: Tie outs, runners, and underground/electric fencing are never acceptable for our rescues. Underground fencing is a convenience for dog owners but a hazard to your dog. Underground fencing does nothing to keep other dogs and predators from coming in to your yard and maiming or worse yet killing your dogs.
10. What form of potty training method will you use, i.e. outdoor, pee pads, litter box?
11. Will you use a crate, baby gates, or some other method to keep the dog safe when unattended?
12. Do you smoke?
At times we have dogs with trachea problems and they must go to a smoke free home.
13. Are you willing to groom the dog yourself, or pay to have the dog groomed?
14. Do you own or rent your home?
*Please note: If you rent your home you must have written permission from your landlord stating that pets are permitted.
15. Would you allow periodic home visits to see how the dog is adjusting?
16. Please provide the names and telephone numbers of 2 personal references not related to you.

18. Under what circumstances or what reasons would you feel the need to relinquish a dog?
All applicants please understand that these questions are to insure the health and safety of Pom Haven rescues.
Some of these dogs have been through so much already in their lives and I ask these questions to assure that they are going to a good, caring and hopefully forever home.
